When it comes to a fine finish, there's no substitute for preparation, and any respected craftsman will tell you the same...
Time spent in the begining is rewarded tenfold during the finishing process...
Not only do South London Sanding complete the sanding process by the book, working through the grades of abrasives, they swear by finishing with a buffing machine before applying any coatings. This method ensures the grain to be closed and prevents the risk of rising grain during the lacquering process, which causes a rough texture and often requires further attention.
Once the technicians are satisfied with the buffing process a Bona Kemi primer suited to the style and type of wood will be applied, using the method suited to your floor.
Once dry a further two coats of Bona Kemi Mega lacquer, meeting British Standards BS 7044 : 1990 for slip resistance and ÖNorm C 2354 category c (HARD WEARING) will be applied strictly to the manufacturers specifications.
Should the area be exposed to exceptionally high traffic then our technicians will advise the use of Bona Kemi's Traffic, which is a two part lacquer specially designed for floors expecting regular abuse.
The above application is for a clear finish to boast the natural colour and features of your floor, available in matt, silk (satin) and gloss finishes.
You may of course like to match and design your floor to a tone or shade that compliments a peice of furniture or wall colour, which can be decided during your initial quotation, or once our technicians are there with you on site.
Once a clear primer has been applied, you will have an idea of the clear finish shade, we can then start to add a little colour to the lacquer to adjust the tone to your desire. This way we can slightly darken the shade with each extra coat. This process is carried out for a small additional fee to cover the colouring, masking up skirtings, door frames and fire places etc.
If a deep dark or specific colour is desired, then the preferred option will be staining the wood after sanding and buffing which is a little more expensive due to excessive drying times required between coats.
